Sustainable Salon

Our Ethos as a Sustainable Salon

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. We are aware that the practices we put into place now will benefit the environment for years to come. As a salon, we have prioritised sustainability as we want to ensure that our impact on the environment is positive and greatly reduces our carbon footprint on the world. We know that our industry has struggled with this in the past and we want to be part of the movement of change so we can care for our planet.

What We Do

Recycling

We work with Green Salon Collective, who have alternative recycling opportunities. This allows us to recycle hair, colour, foils and so much more. We recycle everything so nothing goes to landfill.

Eco-friendly Products

We only work with brands who share our values. Within our salon we work with and retail Eleven Australia products. Eleven Australia is an incredible brand who share our sustainable values, and their products can be 100% recycled. The products are PETA approved, cruelty free and feature high performing natural ingredients.

Ecoheads

Over consumption is something we are very aware of, especially in our industry. Therefore, we are careful not to use too much water. We use the fantastic Ecoheads at both our backwashes to lower our water consumption by 65%. They also produce much softer water which is less harsh on the hair. This may contribute to longer-lasting colour and less products being used.

Lifestyle

We actively encourage an eco-friendly lifestyle in our salon. Where possible we encourage our clients to walk, cycle, run or car share when visiting the salon. We understand this is not always possible, but it is something we fully appreciate clients doing. Every little effort to reduce toxins and harmful fumes is worth it.

Return & Recycle

We encourage our clients to return their products and recycle them in the salon if they are unable to do so at home. This allows us to dispose of them correctly and avoids them being put into domestic waste sites.

Non-Toxic Cleaning

We opt for cleaning products which are 100% recyclable and are much kinder to the environment. They gently cleanse the sprayed areas, leaving a fresh and hygienic surface.

Towels

We use disposable and compostable towels to reduce on washing, and to make sure they are safe for the environment.

Our Eco-Friendly Salon Design

Led Lighting

We use a low energy LED spotlight system throughout the salon and have two beautiful chandeliers, fitted with energy efficient light tubes and bulbs. All this lowers our usage and consumption.

Greenery

We use bambino and snake plants throughout the salon. They help to purify the air, which results in a much cleaner atmosphere.

LVT Flooring

We have organic, non-slip, hard-wearing, sustainable flooring, which is perfect for our salon.

Natural furnishings

We sourced locally made, natural furnishings for our salon interior. We opted for a neutral colour palette and chose wood, stone and metals throughout to match our salon ethos.

Linen Wallpaper

We chose this material for our reception and client waiting area as it is environmentally friendly and breathable, allowing air to filter through it.

Products

We love Eleven Australia colour and styling products because of their ethos. They are cruelty free, PETA approved, and paraben free with a range of vegan friendly, gluten free and sulphate free products. The ingredients used in their products are high performing and naturally derived, and we know we can trust the products to deliver the results we expect. They also smell gorgeous!

In the salon, we use only ethically sourced and cruelty free products with most packaging being recycled and recyclable. We also have zero waste products for our clients to choose from.

Green Salon Collective

Our salon owner Zoë Rees is an Ambassador for The Green Salon Collective. As a Green Libertine, her role is to highlight environmental campaigns and spread the message about sustainable practices within salons.

Our Community

Through our knowledge of sustainable practices, we have been able to encourage other businesses to be more sustainable. Both local businesses and those further afield come to us to get advice on how to achieve this.
